Knowing your genes allows “Personalized Medicine” versus “one size fits all”
One of the most challenging aspects of weight loss medicine is maintaining the results. There is absolutely no doubt that Diet4Shape protocol causes people to lose body fat fast and painlessly.
But Diet4Shape is more than a simple weight loss program. We endeavour to help people achieve the target weight and maintain it after Diet4Shape.
Areas of life are essential to health:
3. Stress Management
I will take this opportunity to introduce people to genetic testing which has lately become readily available at around 500A$. These tests allow people to understand their genetic predispositions. Consequently they can change their diet and choose the most beneficial way to exercise in order to improve outcomes and prevent metabolic diseases.
A lot of people struggle to lose weight throughout their entire life. Very often they do the “right” thing for long periods of time with minimal or no results at all. In frustration they give up and revert to “bad habits. The result is weight gain above the pre-diet level and a strong sense of hopelessness and depression.
This is exactly what I am trying to avoid with our patients. I want to use the Diet4Shape program not only to help them lose weight but as an effective tool stay healthy and avoid the traps of following diets or exercise regimens that do not suit their own DNA.
DNA analysis helps people understand their genetic weaknesses and take steps to correct them. It also helps when we understand what we are doing wrong.
How does it work: the patient provides a sample of saliva that is sent to the lab. The DNA is analysed and the patient receives a report in the following areas:
· Diet(lactose intolerance, bitter taster, sweet taster, eating disinhibition, slow or fast caffeine metabolism, alcohol flush)
· Nutritional needs (vitamin B 6, B12, folic acid, vitamin A, C, D, E)
· Exercise(body weight response to exercise, benefits from either resistance training or endurance exercises, blood pressure response to exercise, tendency to regain lost weight in the absence of exercise)
· Metabolic Health (genetic risk for obesity and metabolic disorders)
The report is much more comprehensive and is followed by a Personal Genetic Report with specific diet and exercise recommendations.
Since the above data is based on your own DNA variant, the information can be used to design a diet and exercise plan that will give results. The science behind these tests is strong.
Although these tests have not yet been FDA approved , most geneticist agree that the tests accurately identify a large number of health-related risk factors. The area of genetic testing is still in its infancy but still at its current level it can help people to follow a personalized Diet, Nutrition & Exercise Program.
