A recent study by a group at the University of California demonstrated that a sedentary lifestyle has a negative health impact and accelerates biological ageing in seniors by 8 years.
Sedentary lifestyle is defined as exercising less than 40 minutes a day and be sedentary for more than 10 hours a day.
A sedentary person does not do regular exercise and spends most time sitting, working on a computer, reading, watching TV, texting, playing games or similar activities.
Conversely, correcting a sedentary lifestyle can prevent numerous causes of death or negative health consequences.
We appreciate that most of the time the lack of exercise is strongly related to work and family constraints which cannot be ignored or placed second.
On a positive note, there is compelling evidence that high intensity interval training is an efficient way of keeping fit , slim and healthy. It requires only 20 minutes a day out of which 12 minutes have to register maximum intensity.
